Octoberfest

The Octoberfest or Marzen (March) type of beer was originally brewed in March, and laid down in caves before the summer weather rendered brewing impossible. Stocks would be drawn upon heavily during the summer, and exhausted by October. In Germany, this tradition has come to be associated with one specific style, Octoberfest Bier. In keeping with true German tradition, August Schell Octoberfest beer is brewed just once a year. We carefully select the perfect balance of Caramel malt, Pale malt, Cara Pils and Black malt with Cascade and Nugget hops to create a rich, smooth taste. “August Schell’s Annual Octoberfest beer just keeps getting better and better. It is big, full bodied, complex, balanced, smooth and delicious. It’s hard to ask a beer to be all of those, but it is.” —James D Robertson, author, A Connoisseurs Guide To Beer.

Beer Style: Marzen, Octoberfest. Alcohol by Volume: 5.5%

Characteristics: A rich balance of malt hops.

Awards: Silver Medal, 1991 Great American Beer Festival, Marzen/Octoberfest Category.

Pale Ale

This beer was brewed in celebration of the 135th Anniversary of Schell's several years ago. It was so popular, we re-introduced it under the name German Pale Ale. Pale Ale is really a hybrid—the best characteristics of an India Pale Ale's English malts and hops, combined with a German Alt yeast. It is medium in color, with a pronounced bitterness and a pleasant flowery hop aroma. Schell's is the only brewery that produces this particular beer style.

Beer Style: Pale Ale. Alcohol by Volume: 5.75%

Characteristics: Rich maltiness with a distinct hop bitterness.

Stout

Schell’s Stout has been chosen as our newest year round craft beer offering. As our 2006 Snow Storm, the Stout received so many requests to bring the beer back, we simply couldn’t ignore them. A departure from our traditional German style lagers, our Schell’s Stout is a London-Style Sweet Stout. If you enjoy the taste of coffee and chocolate, you’ll love this delicious brew. We used only the finest malts imported from Great Britain. Sure, it might cost a little more to brew, but we’re certain you’ll agree it’s worth it.

Beer Style: London Style Sweet Stout. Alcohol by Volume: 5.0%

Characteristics: A chocolaty espresso sweetness highlights our Schell’s Stout. Rich and creamy with a medium- to full-bodied mouth feel. A balanced bitterness is dominated by the flavor of the roasted barley. Color is dark to black.
